Family:Asteraceae

Resinous Sunflower is a wildflower indigenous to various southeastern states, thriving in environments such as roadsides, pine woodlands, mixed hardwood forests, and thickets.

The plant can reach heights of up to 8 feet, with each stem producing either a single flower head or multiple heads, typically numbering up to five. Each flower head features 10 to 20 prominent yellow ray petals surrounding more than 90 smaller yellow disc flowers at its center.

This robust perennial can enhance your garden for years through self-seeding and can also propagate via underground suckers, which can be shared with fellow gardeners. Once established, these suckers can be carefully dug up with a small trowel, repotted, and allowed time to develop a strong root system before being replanted.

It’s worth noting that this plant is occasionally misidentified and sold under the name Helianthus Tomentosus Michaux.

In terms of pests and diseases, the plant can spread through its suckers.

For further details on Helianthus, additional resources are available.
