  • Photo of Hydrangea arborescens 'NCHA1' PP20,765 (Hydrangea arborescens 'NCHA1' PP20,765s)

Phonetic Spelling:hy-DRAN-jee-uh ar-bor-RES-senz

Genus:Hydrangea

Species:arborescens

Family:Hydrangeaceae

The Invincibelle™ Spirit Mountain Hydrangea stands out as the first pink-flowered variety of the 'Annabelle' hydrangea. Its vibrant bloom color is not influenced by soil pH, showcasing dark pink buds that transition to a bright pink as they mature, with flowers appearing from summer through to frost. This remarkable plant was developed at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research Station at North Carolina State University and received the "Best-In-Show" award at the 2010 IGC Show in Chicago. Known for its excellent cut flowers and robust reblooming capabilities, it may experience dieback during severe winters but will produce blooms on new growth. The growth rate is relatively slow, and it has low drought tolerance. While it can endure full sun if kept consistently moist, it thrives best in partially shaded areas.

In terms of pests and diseases, the Invincibelle™ Spirit Mountain Hydrangea does not face significant issues, although it can be vulnerable to bud blight, bacterial wilt, leaf spots, mold, rust, and powdery mildew, similar to other hydrangeas. Additionally, it may encounter problems with aphids, mites, scale, and nematodes.

Please note that propagating patented plant material is illegal.
