Phonetic Spelling:strep-toh-KAR-pus eye-oh-NAN-thus

Genus:Streptocarpus

Species:ionanthus

Family:Gesneriaceae

This evergreen tropical perennial herb reaches a height of up to 15 cm and is a highly sought-after houseplant. It stands out from other desktop plants due to its distinctive rosette of fuzzy leaves with elongated petioles and its vibrant flowers, which showcase anthocyanin pigments. There are many cultivars available. This plant thrives in bright indoor light, ideally positioned near east or south-facing windows during the winter months. It prefers moist soil but should be allowed to dry out slightly on the surface before watering; occasional immersion is beneficial. High humidity is essential, so misting with lukewarm water is recommended when the plant is not in bloom. For continued flowering, it requires a nutrient-rich medium. It does not tolerate dry air or very cold water well and is susceptible to pests and diseases.
