Genus:Syzygium
Species:aromaticum
Family:Myrtaceae
The clove tree, a bushy and evergreen woody plant, thrives in the tropical climate of the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. It flourishes best in mixed maritime forests found in tropical regions. Commercially, the tree is valued for its flower buds, which are harvested shortly after they bloom and subsequently dried to produce cloves. Approximately nine months post-flowering, the fruit develops, with each flower producing a single seed. However, these seeds remain viable for only one to two weeks and are typically grown in nursery beds shielded from direct sunlight. Flower harvesting begins only when the tree reaches a minimum age of four years, and these trees can live for up to a century. Notably, the clove tree is monoecious, meaning it bears both male and female flowers on the same plant.
