This evergreen conifer, a relative of the California Redwoods, can reach heights of up to 180 feet in its natural habitat, although it typically remains shorter when cultivated. It thrives in nutrient-rich, acidic soil and requires full sunlight. The cones measure about half an inch, and the young needles bear a resemblance to those of Cryptomeria japonica, commonly known as Japanese red cedar.
