Genus:Viburnum
Species:opulus
Family:Viburnaceae
The European Snowball Viburnum has been cultivated in Europe since the 16th century and stands out as one of the most well-known viburnum varieties. This shrub can reach heights of up to 12 feet and spread 12 to 15 feet wide, featuring a dense, rounded canopy. In May, it showcases large clusters of sterile green flowers that transition to white and eventually pink. While it does not produce fruit, its flowers are excellent for cutting. The leaves resemble those of a maple tree and display a striking reddish-orange hue in the fall.
This shrub thrives in moist, well-drained loamy soils but can adapt to various soil types, flourishing in full sun to partial shade. It is ideal for use in shrub borders, as a foundation plant, as a standalone specimen, or as part of a hedge.
