Genus:Viburnum
Species:propinquum
Family:Viburnaceae
The Chinese Evergreen Viburnum is a perennial shrub that thrives in the wooded regions of China and the Philippines. Typically growing between 4 to 8 feet in height and width, it features glossy, leathery foliage and attractive clusters of greenish-white flowers. However, its true beauty emerges in the fall and winter when its leaves turn a striking burgundy and it produces blue-black berries that are a favorite among songbirds. In the northernmost areas of its range, it may exhibit semi-evergreen characteristics.
For optimal growth, this plant should be placed in average, moist, well-drained acidic soil, ideally in full sun to partial shade. In hotter summer climates, it benefits from some afternoon shade. It can be effectively used as a hedge, a foundation plant, or as part of a shrub border.
