Phonetic Spelling:ar-tem-EE-zee-ah
Genus:Artemisia
Species:
Family:Asteraceae
This plant is a hybrid of Artemisia arborescens and Artemisia absinthium.
It belongs to the Asteraceae family (formerly known as Compositae) and is a bushy perennial that can grow up to 3 feet in height and spread 4 feet in diameter.
Identification Tips:
This hybrid was chosen by Mr. A.J. Hancock and is commonly found adorning the walls and terraces of Powis Castle in Wales. It flowers in late summer, although the blooms are not particularly noticeable. Wormwoods are known for their medicinal properties, with the leaves and flowers acting as a potent stimulant in beverages; however, they can also have toxic effects on humans who consume them. The plant's silvery leaves and finely divided, pinnatifid foliage can lead to confusion with other plants in the dusty miller group.
It thrives in full sunlight and prefers dry, well-drained soil. It is adaptable to high pH levels and can grow in sandy-gravelly loam or clay loam soils, showing no significant issues with pests or diseases.
