Japanese Bloodgrass, a perennial type of cogongrass, is recognized as one of the ten most problematic weeds globally. Although the red variant is not invasive, it has the potential to revert to the highly aggressive green form, which can grow to heights of 4 to 5 feet. The plant features narrow, sharply pointed leaves that are green at the base and transition to red from the middle to the tip. Cogongrass has already spread across 153 billion acres worldwide, including over one million acres in Florida, where it has outcompeted numerous native plant species.
