Phonetic Spelling:eye-OHN-ak-tiss lin-air-ee-ah-FOH-lee-ah

Genus:Ionactis

Species:linariifolia

Family:Asteraceae

This plant, commonly referred to as Stiff Aster, features upright, slender stems and densely packed, needle-like leaves. Its ability to withstand drought and its tendency to form clumps make it a fantastic choice for rock gardens, reaching heights of 15 to 20 inches. While it thrives in acidic soils found in mixed woodlands of hickory, pine, and oak, it can also flourish in open glades. The flowers, which bloom from late summer into fall, typically display shades of blue-purple to white, eventually maturing to a reddish hue with a yellow center. This species is indigenous to eastern North America, particularly prevalent in most regions of North Carolina.
