Lavandula stoechas: Uses (Ethnobotany)
Used to make essential oils or potpourri and other dried arrangments.
Phonetic Spelling:lah-VAN-dew-lah STOW-kass
Genus:Lavandula
Species:stoechas
Family:Lamiaceae
A perennial woody sub-shrub, this plant features flowering spikes that emerge atop bare stems during the spring and early summer months. Compared to common lavender, this species is more delicate. While it can adapt to various environments, it thrives best in full sunlight, particularly in hot, sunny areas with dry, low-organic alkaline soil. To promote a bushier growth habit and shorter flower stems, lightly trim back after the summer blooms. It's important to note that these plants do not respond well to being cut back to the ground, as this often leads to their demise.
