Phonetic Spelling:
Genus:Vaccinium
Species:oldhamii
Family:Ericaceae
Vaccinium oldhamii thrives in moist environments with excellent drainage, specifically in lime-free soil. It favors areas rich in peat or loamy soil and performs best when exposed to full sunlight and acidic conditions. If grown in shaded locations, the fruit yield may be significantly reduced.
This plant does not respond well to root disturbance, so it is advisable to start it in pots until a permanent site is selected. Seeds can be germinated in a greenhouse, ideally in a partially shaded area, which helps them acclimate during their first winter. By late spring or early summer, they can be transplanted to their final locations, preferably in sheltered spots away from strong winds.
The fruits of Vaccinium oldhamii are edible and can be enjoyed both raw and cooked.
As for pests and diseases, there are no significant issues reported.
