Jasminum officinale, commonly known as jasmine, is a vigorous evergreen vine that can grow up to 40 feet in length and spread approximately 15 feet wide. This robust plant thrives in moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter, although it can also adapt to average soil conditions. Jasmine flourishes in full sunlight to partial shade and exhibits resilience against drought and pollution. Its delightful pink to white flowers, which bloom from spring through fall on new growth, attract butterflies and hummingbirds. After the flowering period, the plant benefits from significant pruning. The fragrance of a single jasmine vine is potent enough to scent an entire garden or room. While this variety is not frost-hardy beyond USDA zone 7, it can be cultivated in containers and brought indoors during winter. However, it will need substantial pruning and support, and may occasionally face indoor pest issues such as scale or whitefly.
