This beloved houseplant showcases stunning blooms on slender stems, available in a variety of colors. Its round, fleshy leaves are adorned with fine hairs. Propagation is straightforward, typically achieved through leaf cuttings.

African violets thrive in warm indoor environments, requiring high to medium light levels and elevated humidity. They adapt well to the warmth and dryness commonly found in homes. While they do need ample light, they do not require direct sunlight; north or east-facing windows offer ideal lighting conditions, as they are preferable to those that receive harsh midday and afternoon sun during the summer months. In winter, sunnier and warmer windows are more beneficial. The optimal temperature range for these plants is around 60°F at night and between 80°F to 85°F during the day.

The primary challenge with African violets is the risk of overwatering. It’s essential to use soil that drains well to prevent water accumulation. Watering should be done more frequently, but with smaller amounts each time. Nowadays, most African violets are cultivated in pasteurized soilless mixes.
